Just a bit of background on the art piece penned by our guitarist, Ryan. In November-December 2019, we started to throw around the idea of possible visuals that might be used eventually at some point in the production of the album, to become the look of the release. As the months went by, we sort of lost traction on it and the discussion of it fell by the wayside, as our focus was fully on finishing the album and getting the mix and masters done correctly with Alex.
However, we did see a preview of this piece in January-February and we were stoked at the drafts Ryan put together. We still new that the art piece might not be done in time for the completion of the album, so we found an alternate source of art provided by Chase in the form of what would become the actual album art. When we realized that there would not be any physical copies of the album, we decided to go with Chase's album art. In both aspects, we felt they equally captured the feel and energy of the music - but at the time of the release, the painting by Chase was in its finished stage and ready to go. We would have been happy either way if it were reversed.
So fast-forward to Halloween 2020, we were not sure of what to use for the show flier and we knew that simply putting the album art as the focus wouldn't be enough and that we needed to give our social media a visual boost - by this time Ryan had finished the piece you now see as the flier for the Flux Tufa Works album release live stream virtual event. With everything going on in the world, we felt it represented us going into the chaos, against all odds - us against everything.
As we look back on this art piece, it means much more than just something that would have been an album cover for a music release. Reflecting on what the music scene has become amidst the pandemic, and also with the band being directly affected by Covid-19, the political climate and its bullshit, the challenges we all face as families and individuals in various aspects of personal and professional lives - the image is a lasting impression and definitely a sign of the times.
We hope you see the image and find a bit of yourselves in it. Believe us, it represents us in more ways than one.
